Calming Pet Products I’ve Used with My Corgi:

Every year during the week before and after the Fourth of July, people in my area feel the need to let off fireworks from about 5pm until well after midnight.

Living in a semi-rural area, there are county restrictions on the hours fireworks can be let off – but no one seems to adhere to the “rules”. Fireworks in my area are so loud with the boom, boom, boom, they frighten my Corgi to the point where for a few years – I sat in the bathroom with her so she wouldn’t shake.

Needless to say – – I’m not a fan of fireworks anymore because of the negative effect they have on animals. Some dogs and cats aren’t affected by loud noises but others (like mine) are scared to death of them.

A couple of years ago I started researching natural calming aids for pets. I wanted to use something that would be effective, and something that used natural ingredients to calm my dog.

There are many calming aids on the market to use for dogs and cats but I recommend these, because I’ve used them and know they work wonderfully – for my dog:

Comfort Zone Collar with Adaptil

Comfort Zone with Adaptil pet calming collar The Adaptil (DAP) Collar contains DAP and offers a natural and convenient way to help manage stress-related behavior.

DAP is a pheromone that mimics a Mother Dog’s comfort to your dog. Nursing mother dogs naturally produce an appeasing pheromone. Clinical studies have demonstrated that a synthetic analogue of this pheromone (DAP) helps provide reassurance and comfort to puppies and dogs of all ages.

This collar is Veterinarian-recommended, and clinically proven to help control unpleasant behaviors triggered by stress or noise phobias.

This Comfort Zone collar is adjustable. I bought the size Large, placed it around my dogs neck, adjusted so there was no more than a 1 1/2 inch gap, then cut off the excess with scissors.

The collar can remain on your dog for up to 4 weeks, so when there’s going to be an event and I know she needs to remain clam – I place the collar on her one week prior to the event, then remove it one week after the event. It’s OK to leave on your dog for a full 4 weeks.

The Adaptil Collar can be used along with the Adaptil Spray or Adaptil Diffuser style=  needed, and can be used with traditional medications.

Chewable Time Release – Chamomile Flower, Passion Flower, Thiamine Mononitrate, L-Tryptophan – 60 Chewables

If you’re dog will easily accept a chewable, this calming aid is a great option. My Corgi sometimes won’t take a tablet or a chew, so with MaxxiCalm, I wrap the chewable in a small bit of baked chicken, then give it to her.

I like this chewable because it has a unique formula supports your dog’s nervous system, reducing tension and stress naturally.

Contains five natural ingredients which specifically relieve anxiety:
– Chamomile Flower: This plant extract reduces anxiety and alleviates nausea
– Passion Flower: Promotes calm feelings, mild sleepiness and reduces muscle spasms
– Ginger: This supplement reduces nausea, gas, diarrhea and other stomach-related issues
– Thiamine Mononitrate: Part of the B family of vitamins and supplements, this ingredient helps promote organ health during times of stress
– L-Tryptophan: Helps the body naturally create more serotonin, a hormone which alters mood in a positive way.
